ChristmasTime at the Ark Encounter

The Ark Encounter is a one-of-a-kind, historically themed attraction.  In an entertaining, educational, and immersive way, it presents a number of historical events centered on Noah’s Ark as recorded in the Bible.  As the largest timber-frame structure in the US, the 510-foot-long full-size Ark is designed to be family-oriented, historically authentic, and environmentally friendly. The Ark will equip visitors to understand the creation of the events that are recorded in the book of Genesis.  During the Christmas season, it is even more special with the Ark Encounter's ChristmasTime celebration.  There are brilliant light displays so have your camera ready!  The view is remARKably photogenic as you take in Noah's Ark, the lake, and the gardens illuminated in an all-new sea of rainbow-colored lights.  There is also winter fun at the Zoo.  Visit with animals from around the world at the Ararat Ridge Zoo. Their goats will even be decked out in Christmas sweaters to join in the fun.  Shop for unique Christmas gifts at their fair trade market and Ark Encounter gift shop.  There will be a selection of handmade gifts from all over the world, apparel, stuffed animals, books, DVD, toys, and much more!  Dinner is a seasonal buffet with festive treats at the award-winning Emzara's Restaurant.  We will even take in the show at the new 2,500 seat Theater

ChristmasTown at the Creation Museum

Be prepared to experience history in a completely unprecedented way at the Creation Museum. This state-of-the-art 70,000 square foot museum brings to life the pages of the Bible, casting its characters and animals in dynamic form and in familiar settings.  Adam and Eve live in the Garden of Eden. Children play and dinosaurs roam near Eden’s Rivers. The serpent coils cunningly in the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Majestic murals, great masterpieces brimming with pulsating colors and details, provide a backdrop for many of the settings. The museum has been divided into unusually configured spaces that allow for personal interaction with each of the 160 exhibits. We’ve also included a visit to the Stargazers Planetarium to learn about the mysterious "star in the east" that heralded the birth of Jesus and guided the wise men to him. And, this is just the beginning.  There is so much more to do at the Creation Museum.  During the Christmas season, you will experience the wonder that surrounded the Savior's birth at ChristmasTown at the Creation Museum.  Stroll through the museum's botanical gardens amid the breathtaking display of thousands of multi-colored lights.  Step back in time as you view a realistic recreation of the events surrounding the night of our Savior's birth at the Live Nativity.  Reflect on the true meaning of Christmas as you watch Mary and Joseph with baby Jesus.  As you walk through the Garden of Lights, you'll also encounter one of the Magi, a wise man who journeyed to Bethlehem to see "the one who was born King of the Jews" and learn of his amazing journey.  Keep an eye out for biblical characters such as the shepherds roaming the Garden of Lights and telling about their connection with the birth of Christ.

The Legendary Lights of Historic Clifton Mill - Winner of ABC's The Great Christmas Light Fight!

For 31 years Clifton Mill has celebrated the Christmas season in a very special way. The light display, featured in Midwest Living and Ohio Magazine, is one of the country’s finest with over 4 million lights illuminating the mill, the gorge, the riverbanks, trees and bridges. There is even a 100 foot “waterfall” of twinkling lights. The flip of one switch turns all the lights on at once transforming night into a fantastical winter wonderland which includes a Miniature Village, a Santa Claus Museum , a Toy Collection and a spectacular synchronized lights and music show that features the old Covered Bridge.  Every night until the night before Christmas Eve you can peek into Santa’s Workshop to see a live Santa at work and then, every 15 minutes or so, watch him check his list and go up the chimney to load his sleigh.

Other Delightful Sights

The Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption is one of only 35 minor basilicas in the U.S.  The gothic architecture has some bizarre and fascinating elements, including being watched over by 26 gargoyles that were all carved in Italy.  At New Riff Distilling you will look through the nooks and crannies of their bourbon distilling process, from grain to barrel.  After, the tour enjoy a tasting of a variety of their spirits.  At the Krohn's Conservatory experience a space that is equal parts enchanting and festive.  The room is filled with a variety of colors - poinsettias in red, white, pink, blue, yellow and purple - and, of course, the train display is intertwined among the foliage.  At the Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal we explore Holiday Junction featuring the Duck Energy Holiday Trains, a display of hundreds of model trains zipping around a winter wonderland.  This has been a part of Cincinnati holidays since 1946.  Before returning home, we'll make a stop at the Indiana Historical Society for their Festival of Trees, a Hoosier holiday tradition with 80 elaborately themed trees.
