I Love Lucy

Lucille Ball was an American actress and pioneer in comedy. She was the star of the popular television series, I Love Lucy. As an entertainer and businesswoman, Lucy continuously broke barriers for women in entertainment business.  And, we are going to where it all started on August 6, 1911 when Lucille Ball was born in  Jamestown, New York. This tour pays tribute to Lucy - The Queen of Comedy.  We will start learning the legacy of Lucille Ball by visiting the Lucille Ball Desi Arnaz Museum.  For decades, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz played a vital role in television and on the big screen.  The museum officially opened in 1996 "to preserve and celebrate the legacy of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz and enrich the world through the healing powers of love and laughter."  We will see Jamestown through the eyes of Lucy on a sightseeing tour with a local step-on guide.  We will visit the places of significance to Lucille Ball. See the house where she was born, the house where she grew up, the cemetery where she and her family are at rest, and much more.  The National Comedy Center in Jamestown, New York, is the first state-of-the-art museum dedicated to telling the vital story of comedy in America. As the nation’s official cultural institution dedicated to the art form of comedy, the museum celebrates comedy’s great minds and unique voices, from Charlie Chaplin to Dave Chappelle. Exclusive collections and world-class exhibits give comedy fans an unprecedented behind-the-scenes look at the time-honored creative processes that have elevated entertainment to an art.  More than 50 immersive exhibits take visitors on an interactive journey through comedy history, from early vaudeville acts to the latest viral memes. Cutting-edge personalization technology makes the entire experience unique: After creating a humor profile, visitors can explore content tailored to their individual tastes, from broad slapstick to edgy satire. Along with educational games and fun competitions, guests can step into the shoes of comedy pros, trying their hand at cartooning, comedy writing, live stand-up, and faux pie fights—or simply cheer on their friends.

Cleveland, OH Experiences

Our welcome dinner is at Guarino’s, Cleveland’s oldest restaurant.  Founded in 1918 and was a speakeasy during prohibition.  During prohibition, liquor was served in coffee cups to the elite of Cleveland and keeping it in the Guarino family, the mother-in-law had a thriving wine business on the next street.  Dinner includes a choice at the table of chicken parmesan, eggplant roll ups, lasagna or spaghetti with meatballs.  And, dessert is Tiramisu!  The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and Museum celebrates the history and cultural significance of rock music and honors the contributions of those who have played an important role in the music’s creation and dissemination.  In addition to the Hall of Fame, the facility includes a wide variety of frequently changing “permanent” exhibits that draw on the museum’s extensive holdings of artifacts to examine rock music, its origins, and its influence through the prisms of genre, geography, fashion, and biography, as well as social, cultural, and political history.  A Christmas Story House has been restored to its movie splendor and is open for tours.  Directly across the street from the house is A Christmas Story Museum, which features original props, costumes and memorabilia from the film, as well as hundreds of rare behind-the-scenes photos.  Our farewell dinner is going to be amazing at Sokolowski’s University Inn, a Cleveland staple for food since 1923.  Dinner is served cafeteria style and includes stuffed cabbage rolls, chickencutlets hand pounded and served with a white sauce, pierogies, mashed potatoes and vegetables, and apple, cherry or blueberry pie.  Before we leave Cleveland, we are going to stop at Brewnuts, the love child of two Clevelanders, Shelley & John Pippin, who gave up their jobs working for “The Man” to pursue their three favorite things: donuts, beer and Cleveland.  Long story short, one night Shelley bolted up in bed and asked John what he thought about the idea of making craft beer based donuts. After a long pause he said "I like that." The next day we went out and bought a countertop fryer and got busy hatching our plan to make Cleveland's most unique and delicious donuts. Enjoy an included “brew” (beer or coffee) and your choice of donut.
