Polish Chicago - Milwaukee Departures

You don't have to travel overseas to visit the Old Country. Chicago boasts a thriving Polish community and we will celebrate all things Polish!

Our first stop of the day will be a tour of St. Hyacinth Basillica, the heart of Chicago’s Polish Village. It is a prime example of the so-called "Polish Cathedral Style" of churches in both its opulence and grand scale.  The church was designed by the architectural firm of Worthmann and Steinbach who built many of the magnificent Polish Cathedrals in Chicago. The church structure—a red-brick edifice in the Classical Revival style has an ornate interior of Baroque influence. Due to St. Hyacinth's impressive size and history as the center of the neighborhood of first arrival for countless Polish Americans, the Basilica is considered to be the center of Chicago's Polonia, or Polish community.

Next, we’ll have a sit-down lunch at Staropolska’s, the top Polish Restaurant in Chicago. After a delicious meal, we’re heading to the Polish Museum of America. The Crown jewel of the Polish-American community established in 1935 and is one of the oldest and largest ethnic museums in the United States. Here we’ll enjoy a guided tour of the museum. We’ll end our day with samples and shopping at Endy’s Deli and Kurowski’s Sausage so you may bring home some tasty treats!
