Natchez, MS

Join us as we immerse ourselves in the hidden jewel of the South that is Natchez. History in Natchez is not just something that is read about in books. Here, history lives.  It lives in their traditions, their heritage, their buildings that line the city streets, and the people. They invite you to experience this history first hand by exploring the stories, structures, scenery, and Southern hospitality in and around Natchez, its impression staying with you long after you’ve departed.  We will be spending 3 nights at the Magnolia Bluffs Hotel and Casino where you will receive $25 in Play, breakfast daily and a dinner buffet.  We have optional tours available if you would like to join us on one of those to explore Natchez.  Otherwise, Magnolia Bluffs does have complimentary shuttle to and from the downtown area, if you would like to explore on your own.

Optional Tour #1 - Natchez's Historic Homes (Lunch is included) - $89 per person

Today's homes we will tour include Longwood, the largest octagonal house in America.  Construction was halted by the Civil War.  The original furnishings and tolls are intact and it is a National Historic Landmark.  Next, Stanton Hall, an 1857 Palatial Green Revival antebellum residence.  It is furnished with period antiques and original Stanton Family pieces.  This National Historic Landmark features delicate arched millwork in the hall and parlors.  Then, The Carriage House Restaurant is on the grounds of historic Stanton Hall and specializes in delicious southern food, which is prepared with care by the hands of Chef Beth Blackmon. Chef Blackmon has taken great care to preserve the long-standing favorite dishes of locals and brought a few new succulent entrees to the table.  We'll enjoy an included buffet lunch.  The third house today is the William Johnson House Museum.  Known as "The Barber of Natchez," William Johnson began his life as a slave, and once freed, opened a barber shop and began teaching the trade to free black men.  Until his death over a land dispute in 1851, he kept a diary that today serves as an important resource in the study of his time and the life of freed blacks.  William Johnson built a three story bruick house in downtown Natchez where he moved his large family into in 1841.  The downstairs space was occupied by commercial property, quarters for his servants, and housed livestock on the property.  After his death, his family continued living in the house and eventually was purchased by the National Park Service in 1990.  His restored home in downtown Natchez offers a glimpse into his life.
